John Evans

Mr. John Leslie Evans, Jr., 64, passed away on Sunday, December 29, 2013. There will be a memorial service on Saturday, January 25, 2014, at 11 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church at 1605 S. Fraser St. He was laid to rest on Saturday, January 4, 2014, at Greenwood Memorial Gardens in Greenwood, South Carolina.

Born in Atlanta, Ga., Mr. Evans was the son of the late John Leslie Evans, Sr. and Onie Burns Evans. He was a retired Lt. J.G. of the U.S. Navy, serving in Vietnam. Mr. Evans was a paralegal in Georgetown and worked as a lobbyist in Washington, DC. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and was the widower of Ann Massengill Evans. Mr. Evans was also preceded in death by his stepson, Michael.

Surviving are his caregiver and friend, Les Cotton; his daughter, Vanessa Sharon of Tampa, Fla.; his stepson, Jim Sughure of Raleigh, NC; his stepdaughter, Heather Yates of Greenwood; his sisters, Ruth Evans and Sara Morton, both of Mebane, NC; three grandchildren; three nephews; one niece; and good friend, Sanaa Rizek of Nazareth, Israel.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Mr. Evan’s name to Trinity Lutheran Church, 1605 S. Fraser St., Georgetown, SC 29440.
