Doug was born in Albany, Georgia in 1948. He attended J. Elsworth Hall Elementary School, Lanier High School and graduated from Mark Smith in 1967. He attended Georgia Southwestern College where he had a very good time before he decided to enlist in the U.S. Navy. Doug always said enlisting in the Navy was one of the best decisions he ever made. He left for basic training on Mother's Day, 1970 after which he attended nuclear power school. He served three tours of duty in Vietnam aboard the U.S.S. Truxtun where he received the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal and the Vietnam Campaign Medal. He also served aboard the U.S.S. Texas. Doug earned the rank of Petty Officer, First Class, served as the Navy recruiter in Macon and left the Navy after 10 years of service.

Doug worked for Bibb Mill then joined his father and brothers in the ceramic tile business. Some years later he struck out on his own starting Doug Carden Tile Company until health problems caused him to retire.

Doug was a loving son, brother, husband, father, grandfather and friend. He enjoyed playing golf with his buddies at Riverside, spending time at the beach with his family, dancing to beach music with Sally, having a "cottontail" on the patio with friends, beaming with pride over the accomplishments of his daughter, Virginia, and hearing his grandpa names of which he had three (Doobs, Boo and Boom Boom). The simple things made his world go round. He was a man filled with much joy and was blessed with an everlasting spirit for life.

Doug was pre-deceased by his parents and brother, Calvin Carden. Doug leaves behind his loving wife of 25 years, Sally Thurston Carden, his beloved children, Virginia Carden Thomas (Bill) of Houston, Texas, Will Davidson (Amy) and Paige Davidson Garvin (Ken) of Macon, and Natalie Carden Stanfield, his brothers, Steve Carden (Stephanie) of Macon, Richard Carden (Geni) of Moultrie and Lyndon Carden (Terry) of Lizella, his grandchildren, Mac, Marshall and Mason Garvin; Win, Web and Douglas Whitman Davidson.

The family wishes to express their sincere thanks to the loving caregivers at Three Rivers Home Healthcare and Bolingreen Health and Rehab for all the love and support shown to Doug and our family over the last year.
