Richard Hansen Steck Jr.

What would Ricky and I be doing today if my older brother  were still here ? I'm sure we would have many stories to tell of times spent in the great outdoors, hunting, fishing, hiking ... exploring creek bottoms and oak ridges.

That's what we did during his short 18 years. Ricky and I were practically raised on Lake Sinclair with mud between our toes most every weekend and summer. He and I were different in a lot of ways. He was a little quieter than me. A little better behaved. A little smarter (Ok - a lot smarter). We argued like brothers. A little selfish like brothers but also like brothers, all was forgotten at the smallest prospects of going shooting or hunting for arrowheads at Lake Sinclair or any outdoor adventure.

Ricky's best friend, Stan Warchak, shared the same love for outdoors. Ricky practically lived at Stan's house and loved the opportunity to shoot guns with Mr. Warchak.

Ricky was prepared to start life with the Army my senior year in High School. He had found a sweet girl with whom he was starting to spend a little more of his time. Also my senior year, I shared with Ricky about my recent experience of accepting Jesus Christ as my Savior. A radical change for me. A couple weeks later Ricky told me ... "You know that prayer you told me I should make ? .... I prayed it the other night !" Wow! was I excited to hear the good news of his conversion .... Within a month there was a car accident coming back from South Carolina involving a high speed car and another car that Ricky and Stan were in. They died within a week of each other.

No doubt my soft spoken brother would have been a great father, husband, neighbor and awesome uncle to my sons .... no doubt !

Ricky was a good man. I loved him.

I'll see you again my brother !
