Herman David Landress (Class of 1970) - known to family and friends as David - was a retired U.S. Army Master Sergeant and a Vietnam veteran who passed away on July 1, 2026, at the age of 74.

Life and Military Service

Born on June 21, 1952, in Macon, Georgia, he was the son of Herman Landress Sr. and Ann Landress Irby. After graduating from Mark Smith High School in 1970, he dedicated much of his life to military service:

U.S. Navy: Enlisted following high school and served for four years during the Vietnam War.

Georgia National Guard: Enlisted in the U.S. Army Georgia National Guard following his honorable discharge from the Navy.

U.S. Army: Retired from active military service achieving the rank of Master Sergeant (Msg. Sgt.). 

Family and Legacy

At the time of his passing, he was a resident of Daytona, Florida, and previously lived in Jacksonville. He is survived by his wife, Sally Landress, his brother Jeff, stepdaughter Allison McDonald, and several grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Susann Harrak, and his sister, Julie Walton.

His life and legacy were commemorated in a published obituary on July 20, 2026, which remembered his dedication to his country and faith.
