James Franklin "Jimmy" Higgins - Class Of 1970

  • Graduate of the Law Enforcement Training Center of Central Georgia with the highest scholastic achievement in his class
  • 1977: Began law enforcement career as a deputy in Baldwin County
  • 1979: Joined the Bibb County Sheriff's department and served as administrative sargeant, special assignment investigator and attained the rank of lieutenant
  • Proficient in photography and the forensic sciences in his law enforcement work and implemented several computer programs used with the Sheriff's department
  • 1983: Cited for heroism and bravery by Mayor George Israel after he rescued an elderly invalid from her burning home
  • 1984: Named "Officer of the Year" by Macon Exchange Club
  • 1989: Graduated from the FBI National Academy in Quantico, Virginia
  • 1989: Named "Outstanding Young Law Officer" by the Macon JayCees
  • 1993: Appointed Administrative Assistant to Sheriff Robbie Johnson

Died October 29, 1993

"Jimmy Higgins never believed in false modesty,and his accomplishments were numerous, but he was most proud of his children. He was teaching Katie to play accoustic guitar and Maggie the art of photography. He had begun a photographic essay when Emily was born, and he was able to document the life and love of his Down syndrome child." -Macon Telegraph, October 30, 1993

Rick Herring (1970)

Jimmy was a talented guy who was liked by everybody at Mark Smith.  He was a great music man too!

Mark Johnson (1970)

Likewise, I went through high school with Jim.  If my memory serves me correctly he was the staff photographer at the old Uncle Sam's club on Gray Highway. Having myself dabbled in photography back then, he was good at it.
