Richard Doyle "Ricky" Gurley - Class Of 1967

Richard Doyle Ricky Gurley

Richard Doyle (Ricky) Gurley, of Macon, died Friday night, March 27th at his home after an extended illness. Ricky was born on January 25, 1948 in Macon, Georgia, and lived in this city for the entirety of his life. His wish was to die in the city that he loved and always called "Home". He was a member of Highland Hills Baptist Church in Macon, and attended Lanier and Mark Smith high schools. He was a member of Phi Omega Beta fraternity, an organization that provided him "brothers" for life! The majority of Ricky's professional life was spent in the car business, which included Jackson Oldsmobile and Lamar Pontiac. This experience led Ricky and his brother to open "Gurley's Auto Sales" which he owned and operated for the remainder of his professional life. The essence of "Ricky" was his love of Christ, which was shared whenever the opportunity arose, his wonderful smile, crazy laugh and selfless giving to anyone who needed a part of him or his possessions. The most important people in Ricky's life were the friends and family he leaves behind, and those he has now joined in Heaven. He was preceded in death by his parents, Spinks and Margie Gurley, and his twin brother, Randy Gurley, all of Macon. He leaves behind his brother, Weldon Spinks (Don) Gurley and wife, Judy of Gainesville, GA, his "little" sister Gina Gurley Gaines and husband Kevin, of Stephenville, Texas. The nieces and nephew which brought him the happiness only children can bring are Spinks Gurley Holman and wife, Sarah of Blakely, Georgia , Lorie Holman Clenney and husband Beau of Stephenville, Texas, Kathy Gurley Little and husband Scott of Gainesville, GA and Lisa Gurley Shaw and husband, Steven of Gainesville, GA. Ricky was blessed by 5 great nieces and nephews, including the birth of his namesake, Richard Spinks Holman on November 7, 2011. The family will receive visitors and celebrate Ricky's life between 5 and 8 PM, Wednesday, April 1, 2015, at Hart's Mortuary 765 Cherry Street Macon, Ga. Burial and service will be held privately at a beach location, the place Ricky found the most peace and happiness with his family and friends. In lieu of flowers, Ricky's wish was for donations to be sent to Heartland Hospice 3312 Northside Dr., S. D250 Macon, GA 31210. Register online at www.hartsmort.com.
